A few thousand names, real or unreal are not going to change this governments mind. If it is on the agenda already there is little chance it will get on at this late stage. To be honest they just don’t have the guts to stand up for our culture. However if just 10 names are real and their convictions and love solid doesn’t that say something?

Yes it will add more to the expensive talking shop’s expenses. Yes, very few of our politicians be they TDs or MEPs, members of the Seanad or just not non-elect can speak Irish. Generally anyone interested in Irish ends up promoting it at grass roots level in the community or education. Yes any revival of the Irish language should start at home. It should be taught a whole different way in the schools. But we have been in self rule for over 80 years and nothing dramatic has changed. If our government couldn’t give a toss why not go to European level?

If Irish becomes official it creates jobs in Europe and at home and allows people to use Irish as one of their two languages (general) or four languages (legal) to work in the EU and it's institutions. Many Europeans don’t even know we have our own language and because we speak English they regard us as just another part of the UK.
It might go some way to changing the inferiority complex which was the worst thing the English ever gave to us, to instil a mental stigma. Why are we afraid and embarrassed of our language? If we suck lead into the idea that Irish is just a joke, that nobody speaks it, that it doesn’t matter, that is one of the steps on the way to getting rid of this complex.

If Irish is official will it change anything? No, not in the short term. But the serious investor never looks at the short term, they are in for the long haul…
